Though a few showers and storms may linger tonight, the overall chance of any additional action is around 30%. Muggy and mild conditions remain in place with lots of clouds and patchy fog developing. Areas of downpours and thunder in northern New England on Wednesday will make outdoor plans tough. Any thunderstorms lingering this evening will start to dwindle, especially after sunset. However, there is still about a 30% chance of a shower, downpour, or thunderstorm overnight. Most of us will remain dry, but the humidity will stick around, making it a muggy night. Overnight lows will hover in the 70s, with even the Champlain Valley seeing lows around 70 degrees. Central and southern New England will see lows between 70 and 75 degrees, offering little relief from the heat.
Tomorrow will be another hot day with temperatures soaring into the 90s in central and southern New England. Northern New England will be slightly cooler, around 80 degrees. Keep in mind, these temperatures do not factor in the humidity, which will push the heat index into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees, especially north and west of Boston.
Expect a southwest breeze at 10 to 20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph on Cape Cod, where there’s a bit of relief from the hottest temperatures. The chance of precipitation is highest in northern New England and lowest in southeastern New England and the South Coast, including Cape Cod.
You may see an isolated shower tomorrow morning, but showers will become more widespread through the late morning and afternoon in northern and central Vermont and northern New Hampshire. By the afternoon and evening, we’ll see an expansion of downpours and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong. There is an isolated to scattered risk of strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow evening, with the possibility of rotation in some storms. Localized flooding will be possible too.
Given the potential for strong storms, it’s important to have a backup plan to seek shelter indoors if a warning is issued for your area.
