It’s almost Friday – and many are looking for details on the weekend and what to expect. Danielle shares the latest on the heat, chance for localized flooding plus when we’ll finally experience some relief from this extended humid stretch. Read below or watch the video for everything you need to know.
We’ve been experiencing a lot of humid weather recently, and while today’s humidity is slightly less oppressive than yesterday, it’s still noticeable. With dew points that were well into the 70s, today they’ve dropped just a notch. If you’re sensitive to humidity, you’ll notice the slight difference today.
High surf warnings are also in effect with 4 to 7 foot waves expected at the beaches. This increases the risk of rip currents, so be cautious if you’re planning a beach trip.
The focus of heavy rain and localized flooding shifts as an area of low pressure and a slow-moving cold front that eventually stalls out over us. For Friday, expect pop-up showers and downpours across Southern New England, with a few potentially extending into Northern New England. These will expand into areas of rain Friday evening into Saturday morning, mainly across central and southern New England.
By Saturday afternoon and evening, rain will taper off from west to east. While a few lingering showers are possible, the bulk of the rain will fall Friday overnight into the first half of Saturday. Timing is still a little uncertain though, so be sure to check back for an update.
Sunday looks to be the best day of the weekend, with dry conditions, slightly less humidity, and temperatures around 90°F. It’s a great day for outdoor plans, but remember to stay hydrated and protected from the sun.
As we head into Monday, expect some clouds to build back in. With moisture lingering to the south and a cold front approaching from the west, pop-up thunderstorms are likely, bringing locally heavy downpours.
Flooding remains a concern, especially on Saturday in the southern half of the region. In general, we expect half an inch to an inch of rain, but localized banding could result in some areas seeing two to three inches.
While the dew points will remain in the low 70s heading into next week, some relief is on the horizon. By later Thursday and into the end of the week, we expect drier air to move in, bringing dew points down into the 50s.
