The first workday of every week means our 1°Outside Pattern Predictions, where we explain the “why” of the 14-day forecast. In this week’s video, Matt Noyes is focused on the breakdown of this week’s heat, the increased chance of showers and thunder you see for New England as we near the weekend, and what comes after that.
The heat is spiking due to a large ridge in the jet stream and high pressure building at the surface. This ridge is bringing in warmth, and we expect thunderstorms to break down the heat as a cold front arrives by the end of the week.
Early Week:
Mid to Late Week:
As we approach the weekend, the jet stream will move south, bringing the chance of showers and thunderstorms. The cold front should pass by Saturday, but with the jet stream nearby, any atmospheric disturbances could trigger pop-up showers and thunderstorms.
Looking ahead to next week, the jet stream dips again, bringing a more seasonal pattern with an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms. This pattern, familiar from the spring, can sometimes bring cooler weather, but this time it may not be cooler-than-normal except for a day or two.
Week of June 26:
As we move towards July 1st, the heat will build across the south-central United States, poised to move into the Ohio Valley and Midwest. Whether it reaches our area depends on the jet stream’s behavior.
