1°Outside Weekend Edition: July 6-7, 2024

We’ve provided updates each day during the holiday weekend stretch, now it’s time for your usual “Weekend Edition” of 1°Outside, covering Saturday and Sunday.  Humidity continues Saturday for all with scattered showers and thunder, then a change in the air for some Sunday. Full details in the video and in this written post!

Saturday: Scattered Showers and Storms

Today’s focus is on the humidity, which is sticking around and will drive scattered showers and thunderstorms. Here’s what to expect:

  • Morning to Midday: Expect pockets of showers with embedded downpours and thunderstorms.
  • Afternoon: Showers and storms become more broken up, but as the temperature rises, the combination with humidity will make these storms stronger. There may be an isolated severe storm with damaging winds.

As we approach fireworks time around 9-10 PM, the storm activity will significantly decrease, leaving just a few stray showers in some communities.

Sunday: Decreasing Humidity and Heat Wave Begins for Some

On Sunday, the humidity will drop for many, except for far southern New England:

  • Morning: A predawn shower is possible on the Cape, and humidity will linger here.
  • Afternoon: While most of New England sees a decrease in humidity, southern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Southeastern Massachusetts sees continued high humidity and the Cape may see another pop-up shower.

Monday: Rising Heat

  • Sunday Night: Northern New England will experience cooler, drier air with temperatures dropping to about 60-65 degrees.
  • Monday: The humidity won’t be unbearable, but temperatures will climb back into the 90s in many areas, particularly in central New England and the interior.

Beyond: Heat Wave Continues Tuesday

  • Tuesday: The humidity returns for most, with temperatures again nearing and exceeding 90 degrees.
