The storm that brought the first accumulating snow of the season for some, and a welcome dose of snow to Ski and Snowmobile Country, has wrapped up, and New England is diving headfirst into winter with bitter cold, gusty winds, and more snow on the way for some. Here’s what to expect as we head into the weekend and beyond:
Storm Recap: Snow Totals Across the Region
This storm brought a mix of rain and snow across New England, featuring cold air to the north but also something a bit rare for New England: snow moving in during the storm on a southwest wind! That’s why highest snow totals by state reflect higher amounts in CT and RI than the Boston suburbs:
- Carrabassett Valley, ME: 11.5”
- Wilmington, VT: 11.5”
- Savoy, MA: 10”
- Tolland, CT: 8.5”
- Peterborough, NH: 6.5”
- Foster, RI: 5”
Bitter Cold Takes Over
The storm has ushered in cold air that’s being carried into New England on a busy wind that will become westerly.
- Tonight: Temperatures drop to the teens and 20s with wind chills in the single digits.
- Friday Morning: Expect wind chills to feel like 13°F or lower at the bus stop.
- Friday Afternoon: Actual highs in the upper 20s to near 30°, but it will feel more like the teens.
