As we wrap up the weekend and prepare for the week ahead, an active weather pattern continues for New England, though cold air slowly relents, meaning each event features fewer areas of snow and more areas of rain. Nonetheless, Matt Noyes says later Monday through Monday night delivers another winter storm to the entire northern half of New England! Here’s what to expect:
Monday Night into Tuesday Morning:
- Rain arrives Monday evening for southern New England, with a wintry mix or snow in northern and interior areas.
- Snow accumulations will vary:
- Coating to an inch: Extreme Northern Worcester County, extreme northwest Middlesex County, and southern New Hampshire.
- 2–4 inches: Central and northern New Hampshire, Vermont, and the Maine Lakes Region.
- Up to 8 inches: High elevations in the White and Green Mountains and parts of Maine.
Midweek Warm-Up and Rain:
- Wednesday brings a surge of milder air, with highs in the 50s in southern New England.
- Rainfall of 1–2 inches will cause snowpack melting and runoff, leading to localized flooding.
- Snow returns Wednesday night in the northern mountains as colder air moves in.
Late Week Snow Recovery:
- Cold air on Thursday reactivates the lake-effect snow machine, delivering fresh snow to northwest-facing slopes of the Green and White Mountains.
- Skiers and snowmobilers can look forward to accumulating snow to rebuild the base.
