Merry Christmas! Evening Update: Spots of Late Night Cape Icing, Moderating Temps, Weekend Showers

Happy holidays to all celebrating Christmas or the start of Hanukkah! Tonight, most of New England will stay quiet and cold under high pressure, but Cape Cod and Plymouth could see freezing sprinkles and flurries overnight. Here’s what to expect in the next few days:

Tonight:

  • Light freezing sprinkles and flurries will develop on Cape Cod and Plymouth, especially after 11 PM.
  • Temperatures near 32° may create icy patches, so be cautious of slippery roads and untreated surfaces.
  • Elsewhere, clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop into the single digits and even below zero in northern New England.

Tomorrow:

  • A milder day with increasing sunshine across the region.
  • High temperatures in the 30s for most towns, including the summits, where temps will reach the 20s to near 30° with light winds – perfect for skiing and snowboarding.

Looking Ahead:

  • A weekend storm is set to arrive Saturday night, bringing showers to southern New England by evening and lasting into Sunday.
  • Northern New England may see freezing rain, but significant snowfall is unlikely due to mild air accompanying the storm.
  • Colder and snowier pattern expected as we move into January.
