Flash flooding is ongoing in parts of western and central Connecticut this evening as 5-9″ of rainfall has been observed with more on the way. Reports are coming in from social media showing dangerous conditions. Rivers and streams are rising rapidly, and unfortunately, we’ve seen images of people attempting to drive through floodwaters—a dangerous decision that could lead to tragic outcomes. Remember, the road beneath floodwaters could be severely compromised, making it extremely unsafe to cross.
For the rest of this evening, expect patchy fog, showers, and thunderstorms to continue across the region, with the potential for more localized flooding, particularly in Fairfield, Litchfield, Hartford, and New Haven counties. This next batch of rain is expected to move slowly from west to east, continuing until the first part of the overnight, resulting in an additional 1-2″ of rain in those areas.
Tomorrow will bring more scattered showers and downpours, though there will be breaks in the rain at times. The day will remain unsettled, with additional rounds of showers and storms expected late in the afternoon and into the evening. Some of these storms could turn strong to severe, so it’s definitely a day to keep an eye on the sky. Have the umbrella or raincoat with you. Temperatures tomorrow will rise into the 70s.
