If you’re looking for something quick and simple…this Insights video is NOT for you! (You’d want to check out our Noyes’ Notes/1°Outside Today video linked here)
In today’s Insights video – the deeper dive into meteorology – Matt explains how a dynamically unstable ridge is contributing to offshore storm development that may impact us Monday, shows 24-hour rain totals, the 14-day dew point forecast and our 14-day to and beyond the Pan Mass Challenge bike ride!
Weather Highlights
- High Pressure and Dry Air:
- High pressure is building in, setting the stage for a fantastic weekend with lots of sunshine and dry conditions.
- Recent scattered showers brought minimal rain, leaving many areas still dry.
- Water Vapor Imagery and Atmospheric Energy:
- The water vapor imagery in this video shows dry air (yellow) and moisture (white and green). A disturbance is moving across the Eastern Great Lakes, contributing to potential storm development on Monday.
- A dynamically unstable ridge is pumping warmth into the backside of the jet stream trough, favoring storm development in the trough position offshore.
- Potential Storm Development:
- A storm is expected to develop offshore by Sunday night into Monday. While it’s not likely to become a tropical system, it will bring showers and possibly some wind.

14-Day Dew Point and Rainfall Forecast
- Dew Point Trends:
- Humidity increases as we approach Monday, stays high through midweek, and then drops towards the end of the week.
- The weekend looks comfortable, but early next week will see another rise in humidity.
- Rainfall Totals:
- Recent rainfall has been minimal in most areas, with a few spots seeing higher amounts.
- Future rain chances are scattered and localized, not providing significant relief for dry areas, even with Monday into Tuesday’s showers.
Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) Forecast
- Temperature and Humidity:
- The weekend of the PMC is expected to be warm, with temperatures around 90 as a New England average, though humidity will likely be down from what it is during the midweek, with dew point temperatures . The Cape shouldn’t be quite as hot, but still in the 80s.
- There is a chance of showers and storms, mostly on Saturday if the cold front doesn’t clear through Friday, which it probably won’t. That said, the storms may erupt later in the day from the northwest, meaning they’d mostly be behind riders if things go as they currently look.
