A new, fresh dome of high pressure, or fair weather, is building into New England this weekend and that ensures the remnant moisture from once-major Hurricane Helene will stay out of New England in terms of rainfall, though some clouds will spread in. The onshore flow of wind from the ocean will add at least some scattered lower altitude clouds, as well, and Matt gives us the rundown – plus a look at the entire first week of the Topsfield Fair, starting October 4th in our 14-day.
We’re heading into a lovely weekend, but expect variable clouds as we move through Saturday and Sunday. While no significant rain is in the forecast, some clouds—both high altitude and some scattered low-level from an onshore wind—will make their presence known.
Saturday should be mostly dry, with highs in the 70s inland and cooler temperatures at the coast due to the onshore flow. You may even get a chance to do some stargazing on Saturday night before the clouds increase later in the night. Sunday will feature variable clouds, with a slight chance of a sprinkle in the mountains or Southwest Connecticut, but most areas will stay dry. Highs will once again be in the 60s at the coast and low 70s inland, with the cooler ocean breeze making for a pleasant day.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Helene are staying far to our south and west, so we won’t be directly impacted this weekend. However, the leftover moisture from the storm will start to approach by Tuesday next week, increasing the chance of showers for southern New England. These showers will continue into Wednesday, before tapering off as we get closer to week’s end.
For now, enjoy the relatively dry weekend before the shower chances pick up again on Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, the weather looks stable and comfortable for the opening week of the Topsfield Fair, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-60s—ideal fall weather!
The Topsfield Fair kicks off next Friday, and the forecast for the first week of the fair looks fantastic. Expect temperatures in the 60s during the day, with cool fall nights. A few quick-moving disturbances could bring a scattered shower on Saturday, Monday, or Wednesday of the fair’s first week, but that depends on timing, which is still quite variable from this far out. So, overall, the weather is shaping up to be great for fairgoers.
While Helene has moved inland, the Atlantic hurricane season is still going strong. Along with Helene, we’re tracking Hurricane Isaac, which is in the North Central Atlantic, and another area of potential tropical development that could form over the weekend.
This additional tropical wave is expected to develop in the Central and Eastern Atlantic over the next few days. While these systems are far from New England, we’ll continue to monitor their progress as we head deeper into the tropical season.
