Friday Insights: Humid, Unsettled Weekend

Let’s dive into the weather forecast from today through the beginning of next week.

Very Humid and Unsettled Weather

As Matt mentioned earlier, we’re on the edge of a surge in humidity with the next disturbance moving in. This means we can expect some unsettled weather over the next few days. A nearby front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms on both Saturday and Sunday.

While it won’t rain the entire weekend, here’s what to expect:

  • Saturday: Morning showers, followed by a brief break and then some pop-up showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
  • Sunday: Similar pattern with morning showers and potential downpours or thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

The main concern this weekend is the potential for heavy rainfall due to the high moisture content in the atmosphere. This could lead to localized flooding. Although widespread severe weather is not anticipated, some storms could be on the stronger side, especially if breaks in the sunshine create instability, leading to isolated wind damage potential.

Early Next Week

The start of next week brings another disturbance, with the front stalling and a new one moving in:

  • Monday: Hot and humid conditions continue, with Southern New England seeing a break in the action and Northern New England experiencing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
  • Tuesday: The pattern flip-flops, with lingering showers in Northern New England and scattered heavy downpours in Southern New England as the front slowly pushes offshore. This could keep the threat of showers and thunderstorms around through the middle of the week.

Temperature and Precipitation Breakdown

  • Saturday: 50% chance of precipitation.
  • Sunday: 60% chance of precipitation, with periods of dry weather but plenty of showers and thunderstorms.
  • Monday: About a 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms in Southern New England, but a 70-90% chance in Northern New England.
  • Tuesday: Northern New England sees quieter weather, while Southern New England has a number of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon.

Temperature Forecast

  • Weekend: Highs in the 80s with dew points in the lower 70s, making it feel over 90 degrees in many central and southern New England areas.
  • Sunday: Mid-80s with numerous showers and thunderstorms.
  • Monday: Around 90 degrees in Southern New England, 80s to the north, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
  • Tuesday: Cooler with highs around 80 degrees and showers and thunderstorms as the front slowly moves through.
