Friday’s 1°Outside Insights: Rain, Humidity, and Relief All Ahead

Just like our proprietary 1°Outside Prediction System was showing up to five inches of rain in parts of Northern New England earlier this week, which unfortunately verified with areas of significant flooding, our Prediction System is again showing localized higher amounts of rain Saturday, this time in Southern New England.  Not five inches, but over three inches of rain may fall in a few spots, which explains the flood watch that’s up from the government.  Check out the video for Matt’s rundown on the weekend into next week, and the 14-day dew point forecast finally showing some relief!

Friday Night and Saturday: Heavy Rain and Flood Watch

An Atlantic disturbance is making its way along the coast, interacting with a surface front along the I-95 corridor. This setup is expected to bring significant rainfall to parts of Southern New England. The combination of an upper-level storm and abundant Atlantic moisture has led to a Flood Watch from the National Weather Service. Here’s what to expect:

  • Rainfall Amounts: Interior Southern New England could see heavy rainfall, with some areas like Worcester County potentially receiving 3.5 to 4 inches. Other regions might get 2.5 to 3 inches, while many get much less.
  • Flash Flood Risk: Streams, creeks, and low-lying areas are at risk of flash flooding from the early morning to early afternoon on Saturday. Be especially cautious if traveling, or camping along rivers and streams – they may rise quickly.
  • Rain Timing: Expect rain to fall heaviest during the morning and midday, with the heaviest downpours shifting east by the early afternoon to break apart later, transitioning to scattered showers.

Sunday: A Better Day Ahead

Sunday is looking much more promising with drier air moving in. We might even see a slight drop in humidity, making it a more pleasant day overall. Here’s the outlook:

  • Temperatures: Highs will climb to around or over 90 degrees in many areas.
  • Humidity: There will be a slight drop in dew points, providing some relief from the oppressive humidity.

Early Next Week: More Showers and Heat

As we move into Monday and Tuesday, the humidity returns along with a mix of sun and clouds.

  • Monday: Expect a few afternoon showers and temperatures that could still reach the 90s for some, depending on timing of clouds and showers.
  • Tuesday: A hot and humid day with temperatures around or over 90 degrees and a blend of sun and clouds.

Dew Point Forecast: Relief in Sight

Many of you have asked about dew point relief, and we have good news. By the end of next week, we expect dew points to drop into the 50s, providing a much-needed break from the humidity. This relief won’t last forever, as high dew points return the following week, but we’ll take what we can get!
