Friday’s Insights: Comfortable Air Stays Through the Weekend for Nearly All of New England

We can feel the new air immediately upon walking outside in New England Friday, and Matt Noyes tells us it’s sticking around until early next week…at least for most of us.  The South Coast and Cape/Islands will see an uptick in humidity gradually over the weekend.

Comfortable Air Moves In

The much-anticipated relief from the intense heat and humidity has finally arrived. This new air, marked by lower dew points, will be with us through the weekend, with a couple of exceptions near the South Coast. Let’s take a closer look at what’s coming up:

Weekend Forecast

Saturday:

  • Overall: A blend of sun and clouds with pleasant conditions.
  • Temperatures: Highs reaching into the 80s. While it will be warm, the humidity won’t be too bad, making it a lovely day overall.
  • Winds: Fairly light from the west-southwest, with some sea breezes developing.
  • Precipitation: A very limited chance of showers in far western New England, if any sneak east from the Catskills. Any showers would be early evening and not widespread.
  • Night: Overnight temperatures drop to the 50s in northern New England, and 60 to 65 degrees for many of us – very comfortable sleeping weather.

Sunday:

  • Morning: A light shower is possible in northern New England as a cold front moves in, but most areas will see a blend of sun and clouds.
  • Afternoon: The cold front stalls and weakens for a blend of sun and clouds. Chance of a pop-up shower in far southern New England by late day where humidity builds gradually.
  • Temperatures: In the 70s across the North Country, 80s to near 90 degrees in southern areas.
  • Humidity: Starts to creep back up in southern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Cape Cod, making it feel a bit sticky again.

Early Next Week

Monday:

  • Conditions: Gradual increase in humidity and cloud cover.
  • Precipitation: Slight chance of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon.

Tuesday:

  • Conditions: Humidity returns with temperatures well into the 80s and the chance of scattered showers and thunder.
  • Dew Points: Climbing back up near 70 degrees, making it feel quite humid again.

Looking Ahead

After the initial drop in humidity, we’ll see a slight rebuild mid-next week, but another shot of comfortable air is expected to arrive by the end of next weekend, bringing a bit of normalcy back to our New England summer.
