Weekend Insights: Breezy, Turning Colder, Light Mountain Snow Accumulation – Then a Mild Halloween

If you watch regularly, you probably remember Halloween looked mild ever since it popped on the 14-day…and that continues…but so does the forecast for some decent chill this upcoming weekend, reaching it’s coldest point on Sunday into Sunday night.  Our deep-dive into meteorology with Matt Noyes takes us through Halloween, with Matt showing our prediction for some snow in the Northern New England mountains this weekend and a busy fall breeze for all of us.

Cold Front Arrives: Some Mountain Snow Showers This Weekend

Mountain Snow Potential: While most of New England will stay dry, areas with upslope conditions in Northern Mountains, where a westerly and northwest wind pushes up against the mountain faces, creating healthier clouds, will see snow showers Saturday afternoon and evening:

  • Accumulation: Trace amounts are expected in the valleys and lower elevations. Some summits could see around 0.5 to 1 inch by Saturday night, with up to 2.5 inches in isolated spots through Sunday night.  Watch the video for the forecast snow map.

Temperatures:

  • Saturday Highs: Expect 60s in Southern New England and 50s to the north.
  • Saturday Night: Lows will drop to the 30s across much of the region, with some areas seeing a dip into the 20s.

Sunday: Chilly and Brisk

Sunday brings a chilly, brisk feel as a second, drier cold front sweeps through:

  • Highs: Struggling to break into the 50s across Southern New England, with 40s in northern areas.
  • Feels Like: With a persistent breeze, temperatures will feel like the 40s for most of the day.
  • Mountain Snow Showers: Continued snow showers are possible in the higher terrain of Northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and Western Maine during the afternoon as a new disturbance moves through.
  • Overnight Low Sunday: Expect 20s across Northern New England and low 30s in Southern New England, with some colder pockets dropping into the teens.

Halloween Week Warm-Up

As we head into Halloween week, temperatures will start trending back up:

  • Monday: Cool, with highs in the 50s and a mix of sun and clouds.
  • Tuesday: Warmer, with highs reaching around 60.
  • Wednesday and Halloween: Highs are forecasted to reach the 70s, giving us a break from the cool weather.
