Veterans Day Insights: Showers Exit for a Splendid Day to Give Thanks

First and foremost, on behalf of the 1DegreeOutside Weather Network, Matt and Danielle Noyes extend heartfelt gratitude to all Veterans, those currently serving, and their families. Your dedication and sacrifice are invaluable, and we thank you deeply. Showers Sunday night into early Monday morning will be quick to exit for our Veterans Day in New England and Upstate New York, with temperatures for many rising into the 60s by afternoon as sun breaks out.  In this “Insights” video, Matt Noyes explains the setup for the rest of the week, the short-term wind gust forecast pertaining to ongoing brush fires, the chance for a few mountain snow showers and the temperature pattern for the next 14 days.

Monday’s Forecast: Showers Exit for Terrific Temperatures

As we begin Veterans Day, a cold front brings light rain showers very early in the day, with rain exiting by mid-morning even in Eastern areas – sooner for most of us. Clouds will break up, leading to a blend of sun and clouds, and mild temperatures reaching into the 60s across southern New England, with 50s expected in northern areas. It will be a breezy day, with southwest wind gusts reaching 30 mph before tapering off into the afternoon. This breeze will serve to quickly dry out the beneficial overnight moisture we received.

Monday Night: A Chillier Trend with Snowflakes for the Mountains

As Monday night arrives, a secondary cold front sweeps through, dropping temperatures and introducing colder, drier air. This front could also bring some snow showers to higher elevations in northern New England, with light accumulations in mountainous areas by Tuesday morning. For the rest of the region, this front will bring noticeably cooler temperatures for Tuesday, with highs only reaching the 40s in most areas. Factoring in gusty northwest winds gusting up to 40 mph, expect it to feel even colder, especially in northern New England where it may feel like the 30s, and keep in mind that gusty northwest wind will aggravate ongoing brush fire concerns.

Looking Ahead: Seasonable Conditions and Limited Rain Chances

After Tuesday’s brisk conditions, high pressure moves in, providing a drier, fair weather stretch midweek. Veterans Day’s warmth will be followed by a much cooler trend, with daytime highs in the 40s and 50s for the remainder of the week. The latest projections for Tropical Storm Raphael show it weakening and stalling in the Gulf, resulting in minimal available moisture to contribute to the next disturbance moving east out of the Great Lakes for week’s end, so while there’s a chance of a few showers Thursday night or Friday, it’s not looking promising for much in the way of rain.

Marine Forecast: Rough Seas Early Week

Mariners, expect rough seas to develop on Tuesday as northwest winds drive wave heights to 8-12 feet in some offshore areas. Conditions will remain bumpy through Wednesday, with seas gradually subsiding by Thursday.

Extended Forecast: Cooler, Typical November Temperatures

The next two weeks after Veterans day are set to feature seasonable November temperatures, with most areas experiencing highs in the 40s to low 50s. We may not see another decent rain chance until next week, and the overall pattern suggests a cooler, stable stretch for mid-November.
