New Year’s Eve Weather

Timing:

  • Late Evening: Light rain spreads into Southern New England, gradually moving north.
  • Midnight: Rain showers continue to expand in Southern New England.

Temperatures:

  • 30s to near 40°F for most of New England.

New Year’s Day: Rain to Snow Transition

Rain tapers in Southern New England by midday, while colder air transitions rain to snow in the mountains of Northern New England.

Snow Totals Through New Year’s Day:

  • Northern Vermont & New Hampshire: 1–4 inches, highest amounts in higher terrain.
  • Maine Mountains: 6–12 inches.

Midweek Cold and Weekend Upslope Snow

Highlights:

  • Thursday: Strong west winds gusting to 45–50 mph usher in colder air.
  • Friday & Saturday: Highs in the 20s/30s with upslope snow for the Green Mountains and northern ski areas, bringing multiday snow totals of 12–18 inches in spots by the weekend.
