Wednesday Insights: Snow Showers for Some Thursday Night, Watching Weekend Storms

Winter’s grip on New England continues, with several changes on the horizon as we head into the weekend.  In today’s Insights video, Matt Noyes explains how one disorganized disturbance Thursday night may bring the most snow to the Cape and Islands, the next brings warmth for raindrops in Southern New England (snow in Ski Country) Saturday evening and night…and we’re watching potential storm development Sunday night into Monday that is far from locked in.  Get it all in the video!

Thursday Night Snow Showers

A weak disturbance will bring disorganized snow showers across New England overnight Thursday into Friday morning. The South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands may see slight enhancement from the ocean, leading to the best chance for a coating to an inch in those areas. Elsewhere, snow totals will be minimal—a dusting to a few tenths of an inch at most.

Weekend Weather: Rain South, Snow North

Saturday Evening and Night brings the next round of precipitation. Warm air surging into southern New England will favor rain for areas south of Route 2, while northern New England and ski country see accumulating snow.

Sunday Night/Monday Storm Potential: A new disturbance along a cold front brings a 30% chance of snow in southern New England. While confidence is low, early indications suggest a developing storm may graze the region with light to moderate snowfall.

Looking Ahead

A blast of Arctic air returns by mid-next week, reinforcing the classic winter chill, but New England continues to see increased chances for disturbances coming close through the end of January.
