Monday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes: Cool Air Retreats for an Incredible Monday

It’s a little cool early this morning, but what a rebound we have in New England today!  It’s not a one-day thing, either, says Matt Noyes – in fact, in Noyes’ Notes, he tells us much of this week will be dry…and mild!  Watch the full video for our 24-hour forecast and the main themes of the forecast – we’ll post “Insights” as we always do for a deeper-dive into meteorology coming up later today on the homepage and atop the homescreen of our app.  Don’t forget – Pattern Predictions comes out later today, too!

Plenty of Sunshine and Above Average Temperatures
Sunshine dominates the forecast today, and with a light northwest wind shifting to a light sea breeze near the coast late in the afternoon, highs will climb into the lower 70s for many. Even areas north of the Massachusetts border should reach the upper 60s to near 70, while Cape Cod and coastal communities stay cooler – typical for this time of year – thanks to the surrounding chilly ocean waters.

Northern New England won’t quite warm as much today. Areas like Coös County, New Hampshire, and the Crown of Maine will only top out around 60-65 degrees as yesterday’s shot of colder air is a little harder to fully scour out.

Dry Stretch Ahead — But Allergy Sufferers Beware
The dry pattern continues for much of the week, and while that’s great news for outdoor plans, it’s tough for anyone dealing with allergies. Matt notes the pollen count will keep rising over the next few days, fueled by sunny skies, dry air, and very little rain to wash anything out of the air. Tree pollen in particular will be the main culprit.

Any Rain in Sight?
The only notable rain chance in the immediate future comes Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning as a cold front swings through. Showers will be scattered, not widespread, and most of the rain should be gone by sunrise Wednesday. Behind that front, slightly cooler air settles in for midweek, but even then, temperatures will remain above average, with highs in the 60s to near 70.

Brush Fire Danger Returns Later This Week
Although the weekend rain helped tamp down the brush fire risk for now, Matt cautions that with the upcoming dry stretch, the fire danger will likely creep back up again by late week — especially before the trees are fully leafed out and casting shade to keep the forest floor moist.

Looking Ahead
After today’s beautiful weather, tomorrow looks even warmer – highs well into the 70s and possibly flirting with 80 degrees in a few southern spots. Wednesday is a little cooler behind the front, but still a bright, pleasant day. The next more widespread chance of rain may not come until Friday, and even that is looking fairly scattered at this point.

In short, it’s a perfect few days to get outside, soak up the sunshine, and enjoy the best of what spring has to offer across New England!
