Monday Insights: A Limited Chance for Raindrops in New England Later This Week

Our Insights video dives into the meteorology behind the forecast for the next several days, and for our Sunday Night/Monday edition, that means Matt Noyes is taking a close look at the coastal storm sitting off the Mid-Atlantic and summing up the chances a chunk of that rain spreads north into New England later this week.  Matt says it’s not set in stone…and may be our only chance at rain until the end of next week.  Full details in the video, written summary below.

If you’re reading this on Sunday night, or if it’s your Monday morning check-in, I’ve got a deeper dive into this week’s weather. We’re starting off Monday with relatively calm conditions and a bit of change on the horizon. The day will bring wispy clouds across the sky—those high cirrus clouds that often signal a shift in the weather pattern. Monday should remain dry, with comfortable highs between 80 and 85 degrees across Southern New England, and a touch cooler on the South Coast thanks to an ocean breeze. At night, the air cools into the 50s for all of us, making it a pleasant evening to leave the windows open.

By Tuesday, those clouds will thicken, especially in the southern parts of New England, while Northern New England may still see some clearer skies. Even with the thickening clouds, temperatures should still rise into 80s during the day for most, and humidity levels will begin to increase as we move into midweek.

Shower Chances Later in the Week:
The main focus for this week is a period of showers that becomes more likely by Thursday. A developing system will gradually bring moisture and energy from the south, but it’s not a guarantee for widespread rain. Wednesday evening to Friday is the best window for showers, particularly across Central and Southern New England, though Northern areas might remain drier.

The biggest question is how much moisture will make it into the lower levels of the atmosphere. For now, the forecast suggests some rain, but if you have outdoor plans, keep your fingers crossed, because rain extending this far north surely isn’t set in stone yet.

Looking Ahead: Dry Weekend on Tap
For those of you already thinking about next weekend, good news! Once we move past Thursday and perhaps lingering Friday showers, the weather returns to a drier pattern heading into the weekend. If the rain comes through as expected, we won’t see any more substantial rain for at least another week or so. The dry pattern looks likely to hold through next weekend—perfect if you have outdoor plans, but this continues to highlight the importance of water conservation and management in the recent dry pattern.
