Monday Insights: First Frost, First Flakes For Some in New England, Florida Watches Milton

Matt Noyes picks up where we left off with Insights last week and touched upon in Sunday Evening Essentials last evening: swell from offshore Hurricane Kirk relaxes after today (while Kirk heads for France!), Hurricane Milton is organizing in the Gulf and will hit the West Coast of Florida, New England is in line for a first frost for some, first flakes for a few and an amazing stretch of weather this weekend.  All of it in today’s Insights video!

Overview of the Week Ahead
Matt kicks off Monday with a deep dive into the meteorological setup influencing this week’s weather, especially focusing on Florida and Hurricane Milton. Locally, the Topsfield Fair continues to enjoy fantastic fall weather through October 14, with no significant rain expected for tomorrow, making it a great day for outdoor activities and the fair.

Rain and Temperature Patterns
In New England, today’s rain continues with cooler air moving in behind it, driven by a dip in the jet stream. Expect mid-60s for highs tomorrow with building clouds. By Wednesday, clouds will stick around, bringing a chance of scattered showers, especially in northern and western New England. Thursday morning may even bring the first flakes of snow to parts of northern New England, while southern areas remain cloudy and cool.

Hurricane Milton’s Impact
The focus shifts to Hurricane Milton, rapidly intensifying to a Category 4 storm, with landfall expected along Florida’s West Coast by Wednesday evening. The biggest concerns are severe wind damage and storm surges between 9 to 12 feet, if not greater. Heavy rain will also be a factor across northern Florida and southeastern Georgia.

Looking Ahead
After today’s rain, Tuesday brings clearing skies and a cool start. A chance for frost arrives Tuesday night across northern New England, followed by another disturbance on Wednesday, bringing showers to southern New England. By Friday, dry air returns, with highs reaching back into the 60s, and a beautiful fall weekend on tap. Saturday is forecasted to be sunny and mild, with highs in the 70s, just in time for the final weekend of the Topsfield Fair.
