As we kick off the week, meteorologist Matt Noyes provides an in-depth look at New England’s weather patterns driving the forecast of increased showers/thunder today (Monday), Wednesday and Saturday, and the bouts of fall-feeling air at times. As mentioned in our 1°Outside Today video (you can always find all our videos on our homepage and the home screen of our app!) New England is in the spotlight today with a heightened risk of severe thunderstorms, fueled by a cold pool of air aloft associated with an upper-level storm just east of the region. This setup could bring a few pockets of large hail, localized flooding, and strong wind gusts, particularly through 8 PM. As we move through the week, the weather story shifts.
Midweek and Beyond: A Cool Down and More Showers
Tuesday offers a brief reprieve with pleasant weather, as the upper-level disturbance drifts away. However, by Wednesday, a new cold front moves in, bringing with it another chance for showers and storms as humid air surges ahead of it into New England. This front will significantly drop temperatures and dew points once it passes, making Thursday feel more like fall with cooler, drier air taking over. Highs in Boston and surrounding areas may not surpass 70 degrees, and the cooler weather sticks around through Friday.
Looking Ahead: Weekend Warmth and the 14-Day Outlook
As the weekend approaches, humidity and temperatures will start to climb again, though not to oppressive levels. Expect scattered showers on Saturday, with the chance of showers lowering Sunday. The 14-day forecast suggests no major return of deep 80s, signaling that the seasons are beginning to change. Mariners should note the potential for rough seas from Wednesday onward, with 4-5 foot waves likely as the northeast wind strengthens.
