Although this week starts out with a breather, Matt Noyes says there’s been no change to the idea of multiple storms lined up for New England in the coming several days.  Matt also explains why many of these systems will come with snow/mix/rain lines that will be moving targets, even though nearly all systems start out with bursts of accumulating snow.

Tuesday Night – South Coast Snow Chance
The first system to watch this week will slide to our south Tuesday night. While it mostly misses New England, southern areas—especially along the South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands—have the best chance of picking up light snow. Boston and areas north of the Mass Pike will likely stay dry, but any shift north in the storm track could bring flakes a little farther north.

Wednesday & Wednesday Night/Night – Thursday: Snow to Mix
Some ocean-effect snow showers are expected Wednesday as the wind turns onshore with cold air.  Significant accumulation isn’t likely, but some light accumulation is possible, especially in Eastern MA, spread over the day.  Then, a stronger midweek system arrives Wednesday evening, bringing widespread snow across New England. However, just like previous storms, it will also carry warm air northward, meaning a transition from snow to sleet and rain is likely, especially in southern and central New England. The big question will be how far north the rain-snow line advances before the storm winds down on Thursday.  As an early look, this system has the appearance of a 1″-3″ snow far south, a broad 2″-4″ zone for many and the potential for several inches in the mountains, but we’ll keep you posted as we get closer.

Looking Ahead: Another Weekend Storm
New England has been locked into a pattern of midweek and weekend storms, and that trend looks to continue. Another storm is likely to arrive Saturday night into Sunday, with a mix of snow and rain expected once again. This system may carry even more moisture, increasing the potential for significant snowfall in some areas ahead of any change to mix or raindrops.
