Monday Insights:
Spring’s Back-and-Forth Continues

As we kick off the first full week of April, New England is in for another classic spring setup—fluctuating temperatures, mixed precipitation, and quickly changing conditions.

Tuesday: Much Cooler & Blustery

After Monday’s mild conditions, Tuesday will bring a reality check. Temperatures will range from the 30s in northern New England to the 40s and lower 50s farther south. With west-northwest wind gusts reaching up to 30–35 mph, it will feel even chillier, especially during the bus ride home and evening hours. Overnight lows Tuesday night will drop into the teens in the North Country and 20s to low 30s elsewhere—setting the stage for a cold start Wednesday.

Wednesday: Quiet Start, Messy Finish

Wednesday begins dry, though onshore flow from the southeast keeps temperatures cooler than average. Clouds will gradually increase, with little impact expected for the morning or evening commute in most areas. However, by Wednesday night, the leading edge of the next system arrives with snow, sleet, and pockets of freezing rain, especially in northern New England.

Valley areas will see a quicker change to plain rain, but spots in central Vermont, central New Hampshire, and western Maine may see light icing, leading to potentially slick travel for the Thursday morning commute.

Thursday: Gradual Warmup and Rain Showers

By Thursday morning, most of southern New England will have changed over to rain. Pockets of heavier rain or downpours may move through during the afternoon, before tapering to scattered showers later in the day. Snow totals will be minor—generally a coating to an inch in northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and parts of Maine, with isolated 1–3″ amounts in the higher terrain.

Danielle notes that while Wednesday night’s ice risk isn’t expected to match last weekend’s storm, areas in central Vermont and parts of Maine could see light glaze accumulation atop sleet, especially on untreated surfaces resulting in difficult travel.

Friday & Weekend Outlook

The front slows as it exits, leaving behind some clouds and a chance of a lingering shower on Friday, especially along the South Coast. Otherwise, the day will feel like spring again, with temperatures rebounding into the 50s and 60s.

At this point, Saturday looks like the weekend pick, with another round of precipitation possible by late Saturday into Sunday. The timing and type of that next system will be refined in the days ahead.
