Monday Insights:
Warmth Breeds Thunderstorm Risk for Parts of New England Tuesday

Meteorologist Danielle Noyes takes us through the upcoming pattern in today’s Insights video, highlighting everything you need to know as we head into May.

Today (Monday) and Tomorrow (Tuesday): Warmth Surges In
Today brings sunshine and a beautiful spring day — but some weather change comes Tuesday as warm (somewhat humid) air arrives. Highs will surge into the 70s and even near 80°F in western New England, while the south coast and Cape Cod stay cooler. It’s breezy too, with gusts up to 30-35 mph.

Tuesday’s Thunderstorm Threat:
While most of New England stays dry early Tuesday, late afternoon and evening will bring the potential for thunderstorms.

  • Greatest risk: Northern and northwestern Vermont (slight severe threat).

  • Isolated risk: Southern Vermont, western New Hampshire late evening.

  • Main threats are brief gusty wind (40-50 mph), small hail, and lightning.
Residents should stay alert, especially late day Tuesday into the overnight hours.

Midweek Cooldown:
A cold front sweeps across the region Tuesday night, clearing the coast by early Wednesday. While a stray early shower is possible Wednesday morning, skies quickly brighten, and it turns into a beautiful day — though cooler, with 60s south and 50s north.

Next Chance of Rain:

  • Thursday: Sunshine to increasing clouds, but mainly dry.

  • Friday: Scattered showers return — a warm front early, a cold front late — meaning there may be breaks between rounds of rain.

Brush Fire & Allergy Notes:
The recent rain has helped the brush fire risk somewhat, but it will rise again by the end of the week as dry stretches continue. Allergy sufferers beware: pollen counts will stay high this week with little rain to wash it away.
