It’s going to be a hot and humid stretch – with heat index values climbing well into the 90s this afternoon in the hottest spots of central and southern New England. Will there be storms? Today’s Weather Highlights

Heat and Humidity:

  • The heat index values today will climb into the middle to upper 90s in the hottest areas of central and southern New England.
  • There will be a bit of relief along the immediate coast as a light seabreeze kicks in.
  • If you’re going to be outside, seek shade, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and stay hydrated.

Community Check:

  • Remember to check on your friends, neighbors, and pets, especially those who might struggle with the heat.

Ongoing Humidity:

  • The entire week will remain humid with dew points in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Unfortunately, there’s no significant relief in sight, although temperatures will drop slightly, to seasonable levels through the middle and end of the week.

Thunderstorm Outlook

  • Pop-up thunderstorms are possible through the middle part of the week (isolated t’storm today, most dry).
  • Later in the week, remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl may enhance rainfall chances, particularly by Thursday and potentially into the weekend.

Beach Forecast

For those heading to the beach:

  • Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s.
  • A sea breeze should kick in, cooling things off by a couple of degrees in the afternoon.
  • The heat index will be in the low 90s, and the UV index is very high.
  • Waves will be 2 to 3 feet, with a low risk of rip currents.
  • High tide is during the early afternoon, moving out in the second half of the afternoon.

Regional Temperatures

  • Southern New England: Highs in the lower 90s.
  • Cape Cod: Around 80 degrees.
  • Coast of Maine: 70s to lower 80s, with some stubborn low clouds and fog in the morning.
  • Northern Vermont and New Hampshire: Well into the 80s.

Evening and Overnight

  • Tonight will remain humid with temperatures dropping to the upper 60s to lower 70s.
  • A light southwest breeze will prevail.
  • Expect low clouds and patchy fog to develop along the south coast.
