Monday’s Noyes’ Notes/1°Outside Today: Heat Wave & Oppressive Humidity

A combination of the heat and humidity will make it feel like it’s over 100 degrees in many areas across New England through midweek. Pop-up thunderstorms are likely, some of which could result in localized flooding. Danielle shares when we get some relief in this morning’s 1°Outside Today video. If you prefer to read about the forecast, we’ve got you covered below!

The big story for the next several days is all about the heat. We’re in the midst of a heat wave that will last through midweek. Some of us hit 90 plus degrees yesterday, so that’ll be a 4 day heat wave for you! The oppressive humidity only adds to the discomfort, with heat indices going over 100 in some spots.

Thunderstorm Risk

With all this heat and humidity, we can expect hit or miss thunderstorms today and tomorrow. Wednesday brings a higher chance of scattered action. The good news? Relief is on the way. By Thursday, dew points will drop into the 50s, bringing a welcome change, and high temperatures will be in the 80s instead of the 90s. So, hang in there!

Today’s Forecast

  • Highs: 90 to 95°F (without the humidity factored in)
  • Relief: Immediate south coast will see slightly lower highs in the eighties, but it will still be just as humid.
  • Thunderstorm Risk: Be weather aware, particularly in the late afternoon and evening. Expect heavy downpours, lightning, and brief gusty winds with any thunderstorms that develop.
  • Northern New England: Highs in the 80s to lower 90s from the lakes to the seacoast.
  • Southern New England: Highs will generally be in the 90s, with mid to upper 80s from the Crown of Maine to around 90 near the Turnpike.

Tonight’s Forecast

  • Lows: 70 to 75°F for most areas, with some 60s in far Western New England.
  • Conditions: Muggy overnight with isolated storm/shower possible.

Looking Ahead

By Thursday, we’ll finally see some relief with lower humidity and cooler temperatures. Highs will be in the 80s, with dewpoint values in the 50s (much more comfortable!).
