Weekend Edition: Brightening Skies & A Mother’s Day Stunner

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all the amazing moms across New England! We’re turning the corner quickly today as an area of low pressure pulls away from the region. Any leftover showers through early afternoon will exit with breaks of sun emerging this afternoon and clearing skies by early evening in many areas.

Some pockets of rain will linger a bit longer in central and eastern Maine, but even there, clearing will move in this evening.

Highs today will be on the cooler side — 50s across northern areas, low 60s in the south — slightly below average for mid-May. Tonight brings clear skies for many with lows either side of 40° (central and north) and 40s south.

Sunday (Mother’s Day): Sunshine & a Gentle Breeze

Sunday’s weather looks absolutely beautiful. High pressure builds in, bringing clear skies and a northwest breeze.

  • Morning temperatures: Start in the 50s with full sunshine

  • Afternoon highs:

    • Mid to upper 60s in central and southern New England

    • Low 60s on Cape Cod

    • 50s to near 60 in far northern areas

  • Wind: Northwest, 20–30 mph early, diminishing later in the day

  • Evening: Pleasant and dry for any Sunday evening plans

Sunday night may even bring a touch of frost to some of the colder North Country valleys with lows dipping into the mid-30s (we mentioned this as a possibility in Pattern Predictions on Monday!), while the rest of New England stays in the 40s.

Monday & Tuesday: Warmth Returns

After our sunny Sunday, we warm things up in a big way.

  • Monday:

    • Highs in the low to mid 70s across most of southern New England

    • 60s across Maine and northern areas with a few more clouds

    • Breezy southwest wind, 10–20 mph

  • Tuesday:

    • Highs near or above 80° in parts of southern and central New England

    • Filtered sunshine thanks to high, thin cirrus clouds

    • 60s and low 70s on Cape Cod and in Maine

    • A few showers may approach midweek, but we’ll keep you posted

Allergy Alert

With everything blooming and blossoming — and sunshine returning — pollen levels are expected to shoot back up after the recent rain temporarily knocked them down. Sunday into Monday will bring noticeable increases in tree and grass pollen especially, so allergy sufferers take note.
