On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Westin Copley Hotel in Boston was the setting for an evening of honor, generosity, and community at the 22nd Annual Leave No One Behind Gala. Hosted by the New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV), the event gathered distinguished guests, dedicated supporters, and inspiring speakers, all united to support veterans who are facing or at risk of homelessness. NECHV’s mission is to equip veterans with the tools for self-sufficiency and provide pathways to dignified, independent living. The gala, a key fundraiser, helps ensure these vital programs continue to serve our heroes.
For Matt Noyes, the evening carried special significance. Serving as Master of Ceremonies—a role he’s embraced for several years—Matt was not only guiding the evening’s program but also leading the live auction. This year, however, was different. It marked the first time that Matt and Danielle Noyes’ new company, 1DegreeOutside, served as the event’s Digital Media Sponsor, following Matt’s transition from his longtime television career. As Matt shared with the audience, it was a privilege to continue supporting NECHV in this new capacity, underscoring both his and Danielle’s deep commitment to veterans and their ongoing mission to strengthen the New England community.
The gala featured a number of prominent speakers, including Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy. Introduced by Rachel Flor, Executive Director of the JFK Library Foundation, Schlossberg spoke movingly about the connection his family feels to the sailors who have served on the outgoing and incoming USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carriers. He reflected on the importance of service and how each of us can contribute to meaningful change in the world. His words resonated deeply, especially with the veterans and their families in attendance.
Another standout moment came when Adam Ezra, a popular singer-songwriter and long-time supporter of NECHV, received the Distinguished Service Award. Ezra’s tireless efforts to raise awareness and funds for NECHV culminated in a special benefit concert that brought in over $150,000 for the Center’s programs. His performance and personal commitment to the cause touched the audience and highlighted the power of music and community in making a difference.
The gala was filled with poignant moments, starting with the stirring National Anthem, performed by Boston Bruins Anthem Singer, Todd Angilly. His powerful rendition set the tone for an evening of patriotism and community spirit. Todd also contributed to the event’s success by donating a unique auction item—an opportunity for a lucky bidder to have him sing at their home or event, adding a personal touch to the fundraising efforts.
Matt Noyes, serving as the auctioneer, energized the crowd, encouraging generous bids on unique items such as VIP access to the commissioning of the new John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier (CVN 79), a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The evening’s live auction raised significant funds for NECHV, with guests stepping up to support the cause of ending veteran homelessness.
Several distinguished veterans also took the stage throughout the evening to share their insights and experiences. Among them were Rear Admiral Ronald H. Henderson and Vice Admiral DeWolf “Chip” Miller, both of whom have had distinguished careers in the U.S. Navy and close ties to the USS John F. Kennedy. Their speeches reflected their deep connection to the evening’s theme of service, honor, and dedication to our country’s veterans.
In one of the most moving portions of the night, the Take a Stand Challenge encouraged guests to pledge their support for NECHV’s various programs, including services for aging veterans, housing assistance, and employment training for women veterans. Attendees rose from their seats as they made their donations, creating a powerful visual reminder of the community’s shared commitment to ensuring that no veteran is ever left behind.
The success of the Leave No One Behind Gala will provide essential support to NECHV and the many veterans they serve, but there’s still more work to be done. If you’re inspired by NECHV’s mission and want to contribute, there are several ways to get involved. You can donate directly by visiting NECHV’s donation page or learn more about volunteering opportunities at NECHV’s volunteer page.
The incredible generosity and support of the evening’s attendees truly made a difference in the lives of veterans, with the evening contributing an unprecedented $700,000 to caring for homeless and at-risk Veterans. It was a night filled with hope, community, and a shared commitment to a vital cause. Matt, Danielle and 1DegreeOutside are already looking forward to continuing support of NECHV to strengthen the New England community.
Together, with events like the Leave No One Behind Gala, we can all contribute to ensuring that no veteran is ever left behind.
