As the weekend begins, New England remains firmly entrenched in a cold and blustery pattern that shows no signs of letting up. Friday’s winds, while less intense than Thursday’s damaging gusts, will still be brisk at 20–30 mph, adding a sharp bite to the air and keeping wind chills low.
Today’s high temperatures will range from the teens and 20s in northern New England to the low 30s in the south. However, the wind will make it feel 5–10 degrees colder. Overnight, temperatures will dip into the single digits and teens, with wind chills dropping below zero in the North Country.
Through Saturday, occasional snow showers will linger in the Berkshires, Green Mountains, and northern New Hampshire. Some ocean-effect clouds and snow flurries could graze the outer Cape, particularly Saturday night into Sunday morning. By Sunday, most areas will see a blend of sun and clouds, but the persistent wind will keep wind chills in the teens and single digits across much of the region.
Patriots fans headed to Gillette Stadium on Sunday can expect game-time temperatures around 30°F but feels-like temperatures closer to 20°F, thanks to occasional gusts over 20 mph. It’s winter football weather, for sure, so dress warmly!
Looking ahead, cold air dominates into next week, with highs running 5–15 degrees below average for this time of year. The storm we’ve been watching for Monday into Tuesday looks likely to pass south of New England, sparing most of us from snow. However, the South Coast may see some light accumulation if the northern fringe of the storm edges close enough.
