Matt Noyes tells us some classic rites of spring are unfolding, including increased brush fire danger and rising pollen in the coming days, but even with a few showers, the 14-day forecast Matt shares looks great, overall, for Easter Sunday, Marathon Monday and April school vacation week for many New England kids.
Friday starts mild, and by Saturday, some of us could be pushing 80 degrees. It won’t be entirely dry—we’re watching a cold front that may bring a few showers Friday night into early Saturday and again Saturday evening—but for most of the region, Saturday midday looks warm, bright, and downright summerlike.
This kind of warmth, especially before the trees fully leaf out, does have consequences. The sun reaches the forest floor and dries out last year’s dead leaves and brush, so brush fire danger is gradually rising, particularly with only a few tenths of an inch of rain expected. On top of that, pollen levels are climbing fast. You’re not imagining it.
If you’re planning outdoor sports or events Saturday morning, southern New England looks mostly dry after a few early showers clear out. Northern New England may hang onto those morning showers longer, so keep a close eye on the radar if you’ve got youth games up north. But by afternoon, sunshine breaks out, temperatures soar, and it will feel more like June than April.
Saturday evening could bring a few thunderstorms, especially in the interior, as that cold front swings through. It won’t be a widespread storm outbreak, but keep it in mind if you’re planning to be out late.
Then comes the shift: Easter Sunday brings cooler air, but not cold by any stretch. With sunshine and highs in the 50s and 60s, it’s shaping up to be a great spring day for brunch, egg hunts, and outdoor services.
And looking ahead to Marathon Monday, the weather is looking just about perfect. Temperatures should start in the upper 30s in Hopkinton and climb into the 50s to near 60 during the day, with a gentle breeze and mostly dry conditions expected. Runners will have relatively low humidity, and spectators can enjoy a pleasant day with perhaps a few clouds around Boston as a sea breeze kicks in.
The warm stretch sticks around into school vacation week, with temperatures continuing to run in the 60s and even some 70s. We are watching another disturbance for early next week that may bring a few more showers, but overall, the pattern looks great—especially after the chilly and damp weekends we’ve had lately.
