New England is gearing up for another round of winter weather as a fast-moving system brings widespread snow Thursday, followed by strong winds on Friday. And it doesn’t stop there—another system arrives Saturday night into Sunday, with yet another storm potential next week.
Thursday Storm – Snow First, Then a Wintry Mix South
- Timing: Snow spreads southwest to northeast early Thursday, arriving:
- 5-7 AM: Southwestern New England
- 7-9 AM: Central Massachusetts & Southern NH
- 8-10 AM: Central & Northern New England
- Snow Consistency: Fluffier at onset, sticking right away due to cold air in place
- Mixing Risk: South Coast & Cape Cod could see a transition to rain by the afternoon
- Heaviest Snow: Morning to early afternoon, tapering by Thursday evening
- Slick Conditions: Cold ground means instant accumulation, leading to hazardous travel
How Much Snow?
- Coating to 2 inches – South Coast & Cape
- 2 to 4 inches – Boston Metro & Northern MA
- 4 to 6 inches+ – Central New England, NH Seacoast, Berkshires
- Locally up to 7-8 inches possible in areas with heavier snow bands
