Wednesday Insights:
Snow Accumulation Map for Glancing Blow, Fantastic Weekend Weather Follows

New England is catching a glancing blow from a strong ocean storm that will stay mostly to our south but will bring some light snow to parts of the region Thursday into Thursday night. For those along the South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands, a coating to 1″…and as much as a few inches of snow are possible, while the rest of New England sees no impact. Once this system moves out, the stage is set for a great winter weekend—finally a storm-free one!

Thursday’s Snow: A Brush for Some

The storm tracking offshore will come just close enough to clip parts of southeastern New England with some light snow. Expect scattered snow showers from Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, primarily for:

  • Cape Cod & the Islands – Coating to 2″ inches, with highest totals on the Outer Cape & Nantucket (where 3″ is possible)
  • South Shore & South Coast – A coating to an inch
  • Boston, North Shore & Central Massachusetts – A few flurries/pockets of light snow possible, but minimal accumulation (coatings)
  • Western & Northern New England – Some mountain snow showers, mainly in Vermont & northwest Maine

This event is minor in the scheme of winter weather  – though some slick travel is likely late Thursday into early Friday, especially on the Cape.

Winds Gradually Relax, But a Breezy End to the Week

After days of gusty conditions, winds will continue to ease. Most of New England will see winds under 15 mph Thursday, though Cape Cod may see gusts up to 30 mph in the evening. As the storm moves away Friday, northwest winds will pick up again, bringing gusts 20-35 mph—not damaging, but enough to add a little bite to the air.

A Fantastic Winter Weekend!

After weeks of stormy weekends, this one finally looks quiet!

  • Saturday: Bright sunshine, highs mid-30s south, upper 20s north
  • Sunday: More clouds, but still pleasant; highs upper 30s south, low 30s north
  • Great conditions for skiing & snowmobiling! Northern New England’s deep snowpack will remain in place, with only a few mountain snow showers/flurries expected.
Looking Ahead: A Tuesday System to Watch

Early next week, we’re watching a potential system for Tuesday. It looks like a combination of an ocean storm and inland energy—how they interact will determine what we’ll see…but it doesn’t look like anything significant or overly impactful, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on it!
