An expansive area of high pressure will be in control of our weather this weekend, and with the core of cold air passing just to our north, New England will be the coldest spot across the lower 48 this weekend. Snowfall totals this week have been impressive, from feet of lake-effect snow near the Great Lakes to fresh snow in the Berkshires, Green Mountains, northern New Hampshire, and northwest Maine.
New England’s ski resorts and snowmobile trails are ready, with snow guns blasting to add even more powder this weekend.

- Geminid Meteor Shower: The annual meteor shower peaks tonight into Saturday morning. Get away from city lights, avoid your phone’s glow, and bundle up for the best chance to catch shooting stars under the Cold Moon.
- Full Cold Moon: Officially full pre-dawn Sunday, this is December’s aptly named moon as it coincides with the frigid air mass settling over New England.

Looking Ahead
- Monday: Greatest chance of precipitation is limited to southwestern New England, while most areas stay dry.
- Tuesday: Cold front slides through bringing a gusty wind, brief warm up and areas of rain sweeping through west to east. May begin as a brief wintry mix in parts of northern New England.
