Pattern Predictions:
Above Average Temperatures Continue into May

As we turn the calendar from April to May, the pattern for New England is shaping up to be slightly above average in terms of temperatures — without any major swings into extreme heat or cold.

Meteorologist Danielle Noyes provides today’s insights into the next 14 days in her Pattern Predictions video:

Temperature Trends:

  • Tuesday will be the warmest day of the bunch, with highs surging well into the 70s for many.

  • After Tuesday, a small cool-down arrives midweek, but even Wednesday and Thursday will be slightly above normal for late April.

  • As we roll into May, temperatures steadily climb, reaching lower 70s as the new month progresses.

  • Overnight lows generally stay in the 40s, keeping the risk of frost low except for a slight chance Thursday morning and early next week in the far north.

Precipitation Trends:

  • Best chance for rain: Friday into Saturday with a warm front followed by a cold front. Scattered showers possible Saturday as well.

  • Drier day: Sunday looks much better — especially in southern New England — although a few showers may linger across northern areas.

  • Next week: Fairly dry overall with only a 20% chance of showers through midweek.

  • Mother’s Day Weekend (May 11–12): Early signs point to just a 30% chance of showers, so it’s not looking like a washout.

National Perspective:
While New England stays relatively calm, a much more active severe weather pattern will impact the Central and Southern Plains with multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms.

Bottom Line for New England:

  • Mild temperatures dominate.

  • Small rain chances pop up mainly Friday–Saturday and then again late next week.

  • No big storms are in the cards for now.

  • Pollen remains very high and brush fire risks may gradually increase again as the week progresses
