Sunday Evening Essentials: All The Weather You Need to Know to Dive Back Into the Routine!

Here we go again!  Many school kids, parents and teachers are headed back to the routine Monday morning, and Matt has you covered with all you need to know for the upcoming week.  In short, Matt says it’s not bad for “re-entry” but check out his video forecast for all the details!

As we head into the final week of February, many in New England are getting back into their routines after school vacations—and Mother Nature is making the transition an easy one. A strong high-pressure system is setting up across the eastern seaboard, locking in quiet weather and a noticeable warm-up that will make this week feel quite different from the winter chill we’ve grown accustomed to.

Sunday’s high temperatures climbed into the 40s across much of Southern New England, allowing for some melting of snow and ice, while northern areas stayed cooler but still saw a bit of thawing. That melting, however, sets up a concern for overnight refreezing on roads, driveways, and sidewalks, so be mindful of slick spots Monday morning.

Warming Trend & Milder Days Ahead

Temperatures are on an upward trend this week, with daytime highs in the 40s for most on Monday and some areas inching closer to 50°F by Tuesday. Even Monday night will stay relatively mild, with lows near or above freezing in much of Central and Southern New England—an indicator of a true February thaw in progress.

Monday begins quiet and dry, with a mix of sun and increasing clouds. Winds will be light in the morning but strengthen in the Champlain Valley of Vermont by afternoon, where gusts could exceed 40 mph. That valley effect tends to funnel wind and amplify gusts, so expect blustery conditions there, especially into the evening.

Tuesday: Scattered Rain Showers & Light Mountain Snow

Tuesday brings scattered rain showers, particularly during the afternoon and evening, as milder air remains in place. By late Tuesday night, colder air filters into the mountains, flipping rain showers over to snow showers in northern New England, where some areas could pick up a coating to two inches of accumulation.

Thursday: Another Warm Surge Before a Weekend Cool-Down

After a quiet Wednesday, another weather system arrives on Thursday, reinforcing the mild trend with temperatures once again nearing 50°F in Southern New England. This system will bring rain showers for most, though higher elevations in the north could once again see some snowfall, particularly in Vermont and northern New Hampshire into Maine.

Looking Ahead: A Weekend Pattern Shift

By next weekend, colder air is expected to return, potentially arriving with rain or snow, depending on the exact timing and track of the system. While it’s still early to lock in the details, this could signal the beginning of a more seasonable pattern as we head into March.
