Sunday Evening Essentials: Soggy Week Ahead, Some Flooding Expected

It’s Sunday evening, and as we all get ready for a new week, the weather is doing the opposite of helping out. Rounds of rain are already moving through parts of New England and will only pick up over the next few days – with enough water on the way to raise the risk of river flooding in parts of central and western New England. Matt Noyes has full details in our Sunday Evening Essentials video.

Some of the smaller rivers will likely climb above bankfull early in the week. Even larger rivers like the Connecticut may see rises later this week as rainfall totals add up.

We’re looking at the possibility of 3 to 6 inches of rain in the hardest-hit areas, coming in waves through Tuesday. That’s a lot of water – and a lot of cloudy, damp, foggy weather to go with it. Monday stays raw, with highs in the 50s and foggy patches. Tuesday brings more of the same, with scattered downpours and lingering wet roads.

Wednesday a break in the clouds could push us into the 70s, but that warmth will bubble up new showers and thunderstorms. That could be the most active thunderstorm day of the week.

If you’re looking to get outside or need to plan something, Thursday may offer a small window of drier, quieter weather before we reset again on Friday, but we’re not sure it’ll be a totally dry day – it depends on the timing of the next disturbance coming in…which seems likely to deliver Friday showers.
