Sunday Evening Essentials: Some Snow, Lots of Wind Still to Come Tonight Into Monday

Matt Noyes tracks the back edge of our weekend storm but says there’s still some damaging wind to get through – and for some, there’s still a return of snow!  In fact, Snowmobilers who head to the far North Country will have a bounty waiting for you Monday. Watch the video for all the details.

Sunday Night: The Freeze Begins

  • The storm is shifting north and east, with one last burst of snow sweeping through central Massachusetts and New Hampshire between 9-11 PM before pushing into Maine.
  • Temperatures drop fast, locking up any leftover moisture—expect icy roads overnight where water hasn’t drained properly. Heavy road treatment will be needed.
  • Additional snowfall totals:
    • Coating-1” in north-central MA
    • 1-3” in the Berkshires
    • 8-12” in northern Vermont (including upslope snow Monday)
    • 12-18”+ in the Crown of Maine—a huge win for snowmobilers!

Monday: Howling Winds & Bitter Cold Take Over

  • Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected throughout the day, leading to scattered power outages—especially in areas that saw ice accumulation earlier in the storm.
  • Wind chills in the single digits above and below zero all day. With actual highs only in the 20s, no melting will occur—everything stays frozen solid.
  • Monday Night:
    • Actual temperatures fall to the single digits.
    • Wind chills drop below zero everywhere—a dangerously cold night.
    • Warming centers may be needed in some communities for vulnerable populations.

Lake Effect Flurries Could Reach Boston!

  • Lake effect snow bands coming off Lake Ontario could carry flurries as far east as Worcester and Boston between 4-7 PM Monday.
  • Not a major event, but a coating of snow is possible in Worcester County—just another reminder of how bitter and wintry Monday will feel.

Next Storm on the Horizon

  • Tuesday stays cold & breezy.
  • Wednesday brings some improvement—not as windy, not as cold.
  • Thursday: A new storm moves in. Southern New England has a 70-75% chance of snow, while northern New England may only see snow showers unless the storm track shifts north.
