After another storm that generally performed 1″-2″ below what we expected, New England gets a break from the snow…a breather, at least, before storminess returns at midweek. Right now, it looks like Tuesday brings separate disturbances near New England – one north during the later day and evening, and another south of New England that may graze some of Southern New England Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Then, we turn our attention to a moisture-loaded system for Wednesday night and Thursday…and Matt says this repetitive pattern of midweek and weekend storms looks to continue!
After a winter storm Saturday night into Sunday, top snow totals by state are in with over a foot reported in parts of Vermont and Maine. Here are some of the highest amounts reported across the region:
With fresh snow on the ground, temperatures will plummet tonight, dropping to single digits in northern New England and around 10 degrees in southern New England. A light breeze will make it feel even colder, with subzero wind chills in the north. Monday brings sun and slightly milder temperatures, briefly helping to melt some snow before another deep freeze Monday night into Tuesday.
The active pattern isn’t letting up, with two potential snowstorms on the horizon:
🌨 Tuesday Night – Wednesday: A storm system tracks to our south, with the best chance for accumulating snow along the South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands. Right now, the probability of snow:
🌨 Wednesday Night – Thursday: A stronger storm system will impact all of New England, bringing widespread accumulating snow—but also the potential for mixing and a rain/snow line as warm air pushes north. The exact placement of that rain/snow line is still uncertain, but snow should accumulate for most of us first before any potential changeover.
With another possible storm next weekend, February is shaping up to be an exceptionally active winter month, just as expected in our February Monthly Forecast.
