Thursday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes: A Brief Breather Before Renewed Rain

If you’ve got outdoor plans today, the early part of the day looks great! It’s not until later in the day that we’ll have to watch for some changes in the sky, says Matt Noyes in our 1°Outside Today 24-hour forecast video.

Most of Thursday is dry, sunny, and warm for a huge swath of New England. We’ll climb into the 70s for many, though the Cape, Islands, and coastal Rhode Island hang closer to 60. Even northern areas will push into the 50s and 60s, with the exception of far northern Maine, where 40s linger.

By mid to late afternoon, we’ll start to pop a few showers: first in the Connecticut River Valley and Southeastern Massachusetts, then expanding during the evening. This isn’t a washout, but a few of these cells could turn into brief thunderstorms, especially as warm, moist air returns aloft.

🕒 When to Watch the Sky

  • 3–5 PM: Showers begin to pop west and also southeast

  • 6–10 PM: Scattered storms possible, expanding coverage

  • Late Evening/Overnight: Rain gets steadier with embedded downpours

By Friday morning, expect heavier, steadier rain in Western New England, with Eastern New England likely seeing lighter action until later in the day, with the Outer Cape, Nantucket and Eastern Maine holding out longest.

And while Friday night looks soaked (with a chance of localized flooding and dangerous driving conditions overnight with water on the roads and reduced visibility), we have hope on the horizon:

  • Saturday improves south to north (though most of Northern New England probably holds rain/showers through the day)

  • Sunday looks beautiful area-wide – 70s and sun
