New England is seeing variable weather conditions this evening, from some sun in the far interior and northern parts to clouds and kicking waves along the coast due to an offshore storm. For those in eastern areas, expect mostly cloudy skies tonight with a chance of scattered showers and pockets of rain that will continue on Cape Cod. An isolated sprinkle elsewhere is possible, but most areas will stay dry overnight.
Friday Outlook: Showers at the Coast, Dry Inland
Looking ahead to tomorrow, clouds will expand overnight, becoming more widespread across the region by Friday. Light scattered showers may pass through Boston and the Metro West area but should be brief and light. Cape Cod will continue to experience off-and-on showers throughout the day, so be sure to have an umbrella handy if you’re in that area. Rainfall amounts will vary greatly, with most of New England picking up little to no precipitation. However, some localized downpours could result in over an inch of rain to parts of the mid and outer Cape.
Coastal Conditions: High Surf and Rip Currents
If you’re heading to the coast, be aware of rough seas and strong winds. Waves will build to 6-10 feet, with even higher swells offshore, creating a moderate to high risk of rip currents and minor coastal flooding during the afternoon high tide. Winds will gust between 30-40 mph, particularly along the Outer Cape, so stay cautious if you’re near the water.
