Thursday Insights: Advice to Plan Around Any Weekend Showers

As we move into the weekend, meteorologist Matt Noyes has been tracking some changes in the weather pattern. High pressure, which has kept things mostly dry and pleasant, will begin to give way as humidity rises and a couple of disturbances bring in the potential for showers. But don’t worry – Matt and Danielle emphasize that this isn’t a washout, and more hours will be spent dry than wet.

Humidity Rises on Friday

By Friday, an ocean storm off to our south will send in an easterly and southeasterly wind, increasing clouds and humidity across the region. This change in the atmosphere will raise the chance for a pop-up shower from mid-morning to mid-afternoon in central and eastern New England. But for most of us, Friday won’t be a washout. You’ll see breaks of sunshine return in the afternoon, with highs in the 70s.

Friday night, expect things to stay a bit muggy, as temperatures hold in the 60s with the higher humidity settling in.

Saturday Brings a Mix of Clouds, Humidity, and Showers

The weather on Saturday looks to be a mix of clouds and sun, leaning toward more clouds. For Eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, there’s a 20-30% chance of pop-up showers, particularly in the late morning and afternoon. It’s important to note that, while a stray shower is possible, much of the day should still be dry, except in Eastern Maine where showers are more likely.

For Western New England, the situation is a bit different. A band of heavier rain will develop out of New York and Pennsylvania, pushing into western parts of the region by late Saturday afternoon and evening. By this time, showers and storms will likely become more widespread, so be ready for some evening downpours.

Sunday Improvement: Clearing Out and Cooling Down

Sunday early morning may start with leftover showers, but the good news is that the weather will improve quickly! By mid morning, much of New England will not only see drying but also clearing skies and a return to comfortable fall air. The only area that may hold onto the rain a bit longer is Eastern Maine, where showers may linger into midday.

Once the showers clear, you can expect dew points to drop, making the air feel refreshing Sunday. Temperatures will stay in the 70s, 60s far north, with a cool, dry breeze in place for the rest of the day.

Looking Ahead to Next Week: Fall Air Settles In

Heading into next week, high pressure returns, bringing more of that delightful fall-like air. Expect clear skies, cool nights, and pleasant daytime highs in the 70s. Even though we may see a pop-up shower in the mountains on Monday, the overall weather pattern looks fantastic.
