Meteorologist Matt Noyes takes a deep dive in today’s 1DegreeOutside Insights, focusing on the weather players behind this weekend’s forecast changes – and yes, it’s a dynamic setup.
Recent rainfall helped temporarily, but elevated brush fire risk returns Thursday and peaks Friday across parts of New England.
We’ve had a “split flow” in the jet stream—northern disturbances separate from southern moisture. That begins to change heading into the weekend, allowing energy to consolidate.
Expect:
Scattered showers possible late Thursday/Thursday night, mostly in central/northern New England
Clouds and pop-up showers Friday, especially north of the Mass Pike
Saturday: Periods of rain with few dry breaks by the way it looks now – but stay tuned to our updates in case we can grab a dry period somehow
Matt says:
“I’ve been hoping for that warm-sector dry window on Saturday—but right now, energy aloft looks too strong to allow a true break.”
Friday night through Sunday: ¾” to 1″ rain likely for most
Heaviest showers still expected Saturday
Sunday starts drier in southern New England, but showers could return in the afternoon
Northern and western mountain zones may see snow mixing in with showers on Sunday, especially in higher terrain.
Friday: Inland areas push 80°F again, cooler along the coast
Saturday: Still mild (60s+), but soggy
Sunday: Much cooler, especially north—raw in the mountains
Sunday Night: Frost possible in northern valleys
Monday: Rebounding quickly with sun and temps back near 70°F
