Although much more of the holiday weekend will be dry, rather than wet, Matt Noyes explains why there are some shower chances ahead – most of that driven by significant changes in air with the return…then departure…of humidity. Full details in the video, written summary below!
As we head into the holiday weekend, New England starts mostly dry through Friday with only a slight chance of showers in southwest Connecticut. High pressure is keeping things calm across the region, though the shower chance in Southern Connecticut Friday comes as some moisture may interact with a disturbance in the middle levels of the atmosphere.
Saturday morning could bring a few showers to Southern New England as warmth and humidity return, but these shouldn’t be a big deal and for most would likely be gone by midday. Northern New England should see some scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day and into the evening ahead of an approaching cold front that will carry those showers, downpours and thunder southeast across more of New England Saturday night. With the cold front still draped over Central and Southern New England Sunday morning, the day should start with some lingering showers, and while precise timing may change, the theme should be for drier air to move in by the afternoon, leading to improving conditions.
By Labor Day Monday, expect cooler temperatures with highs in the 60s and 70s, and a crisp, fall-like feel to the air. The early part of next week looks fantastic with dry weather and comfortable conditions.
Danielle and Matt will keep an eye on the tropics, as a tropical wave could develop into a more organized system by next week, and the atmospheric pattern, overall, would feature an eventual northward turn if anything develops…though where that happens is anyone’s guess at this point.
