Matt Noyes has our New England weekend covered! Matt starts with a look at returning wildfire smoke in our New England sky, outlining who gets the best chance of colorful sunset and sunrise Thursday and Friday. From there, we examine quick Friday showers with a cold front and all the details on the weekend.
Friday: As the cold front edges into northern Maine by midday into afternoon, a few showers will develop across the mountains and along the Maine coast. By Friday evening, there’s a slight chance of a pop-up shower from Eastern New Hampshire down to Eastern Massachusetts, including the Boston area by evening. However, these showers will be brief and shouldn’t cause any major disruptions. One thing to look forward to is the vibrant sunsets and sunrises, enhanced by the presence of wildfire smoke. Expect a colorful sky from Vermont and New Hampshire across to Maine for Thursday’s sunset, with more beauty on display Friday morning at sunrise for many, then evening, particularly along Cape Cod.
Saturday: High pressure will reinforce dry conditions for most of New England, but a cooler northeast wind at the coast will keep temperatures down a bit in comparison to inland areas. While the interior may warm into the 80s, coastal areas will see slightly cooler conditions, in the 70s. There’s about a 50% chance of an afternoon pop-up shower in the mountains of northern New England and a 10-30% chance in southern New England. Overall, however, it looks like a nice and mostly dry day for outdoor activities.
Sunday: Another beautiful day in store, although an easterly wind will bring in a bit more moisture and developing puffy afternoon cloud cover, leading to the potential for an afternoon sprinkle in the far interior. However, don’t expect any widespread rain. Temperatures will once again rise to around or above 80 degrees, making it a great day for outdoor plans.
Looking ahead to next week, by Monday, another warm day is on tap with temperatures in the 80s, and a developing storm system off the U.S. East Coast could bring some showers to New England by the end of the week. Still, the overall pattern remains very favorable, with lots of late-summer warmth continuing.
