Thursday Noyes’ Notes/1°Outside Today: Cold Front Crossing the Region

A cold front crossing the region today will trigger a few showers and isolated thunder as it sweeps through, and usher in much more comfortable air behind it. In this video, Danielle shows you who has the highest chance of a brief shower/downpour today and when the lowering humidity arrives.

Today’s Weather Highlights

  • Cold Front Passage: The cold front will move through the region today, sparking some isolated showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the Boston to Providence corridor during the late afternoon to evening. Expect a couple of quick downpours, especially from the South Shore to Cape Cod until around 7 or 8 PM.
  • Clearing Skies: Cloud cover will start to clear out north and west of Boston and through central New England during the afternoon. Southern New England will also see clearing skies overnight.
  • Temperature and Humidity: Highs today will range from the 70s to lower 80s for most of us. The sticky air will remain in place, particularly in southern New Hampshire and southern Vermont. Far northern areas, including Jay and Pittsburgh, New Hampshire, and northern Maine, will see cooler temperatures around 70 to 75 degrees.

Evening and Overnight

  • Lowering Humidity: As the front passes, the humidity will drop significantly. By this evening, dew points will fall into the 50s, bringing much more comfortable air.
  • Clear Skies: Overnight, expect clear skies with temperatures dropping back into the 50s for northern and central areas, and even the suburbs of southern New England. Boston to Cape Cod will see mid-60s, with the drier air taking a bit longer to settle in.

Looking Ahead: Friday and the Weekend

  • Beautiful Stretch of Weather: Tomorrow marks the beginning of an absolutely fantastic stretch of weather that will last through the upcoming weekend. Expect lots of sunshine and dry conditions with temperatures generally in the 80s.
  • Sea Breezes: Coastal areas will enjoy pleasant sea breezes, adding to the comfort.
