Tuesday Evening Essentials: Areas of Rain/Thunder Move In For Some Overnight

The evening will remain quiet, making it perfect for any outdoor activities you may have planned. After-school sports and scrimmages should go off without a hitch. However, after midnight, things start to change. Pockets of rain and thunderstorms will develop in northern Vermont and gradually expand eastward through northern New Hampshire and northwest Maine. These showers will bring some downpours and thunder from midnight to around 4-5 AM. Danielle has your Evening Essentials and a look ahead to tomorrow.

Wednesday Details: Expect some scattered showers and downpours across central and eastern Maine, with isolated thunderstorms possible in southern New England. The wettest period will likely occur between 5 AM and 9 AM, so it might be a good idea to check the radar before heading out. After the morning rain, clouds will give way to breaks of sunshine, and the rest of the day should be generally dry. There could still be an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon, but the main “event” will be in the morning.  As the morning progresses, any lingering showers and storms will fizzle out, and the clouds will give way to sunshine, turning the afternoon into a beautiful one across many areas. However, a few isolated thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, though they should be few and far between. Temperatures tonight will drop into the 60s, and it will remain humid. By tomorrow afternoon, northern New England will feel cooler, with a hint of fall in the air, while southern New England climbs well into the 80s, although the humidity will start to drop by evening.

Outdoor Outlook: For your outdoor plans, expect wet areas during the morning, but temperatures will hover around 70 degrees and then fall through the 60s in the afternoon as drier air moves into northern New England. The mountains will see sunshine by tomorrow afternoon, and the Lakes Region will enjoy mid to upper 70s. Winds will shift, causing a moderate chop on the water, including at the beaches, where two to four-foot waves are expected. The rip current risk remains low.

Back to School Reminder: For those kiddos heading back to school tomorrow, make sure to check our interactive radar in the morning to see if they’ll need an umbrella for the bus stop.
