Tuesday Insights: A Great Stretch Ahead of Renewed Weekend Showers

Matt Noyes explains in our Insights video – the “deep-dive into meteorology” over the next several days – that our jet stream split flow is ensuring a few really wonderful spring days in New England this week.  By week’s end, a jet stream trough returns and likely sparks a few periods of showers and rain, particularly Friday into Saturday.  Check out our full Insights video with Matt for all the details!

“Right now, most of us are frost-free through the coming nights,” Matt explains. “Temperatures in the 60s and 70s stick around through Thursday and Friday—really nice days overall.”

But Friday night into Saturday, a more organized system approaches from the nation’s midsection. While Friday may only bring scattered showers, Saturday looks wetter, especially during the midday and afternoon hours.

💡 “It doesn’t look great for Saturday,” Matt says, “but if the storm strengthens just enough, we may actually see a wedge of dry air that allows for a few dry hours in southern New England—particularly midday into afternoon.”

Meanwhile, Sunday’s trend is looking better. Many forecast models are pulling the showers out by morning with drier air and highs around 60°.

🌧️ Rainfall Totals Through the Weekend

  • Up to 1 inch possible in southern New England

  • Heavier rain in northern New England

  • Not a cold rain: highs in the 60s Saturday, 50s to near 60 Sunday
