Many of you have reached out asking about Hurricane Milton – Matt updated us in yesterday’s Insights video but does it again here with the latest information and a true deep-dive on an historic storm. Plus, we get a glimpse of precisely who may see frost in New England tonight and Wednesday night. All of that in our Tuesday Insights!
Overview of New England’s Forecast: As we move through the midweek, New England will see classic fall weather with a mix of sun, clouds, and cooler temperatures. Wednesday brings a chance for scattered showers, especially in northern areas. Temperatures will stay cool with highs in the 50s and some areas not escaping the 40s by Thursday. Frost is expected tonight in northern New England, and maybe in isolated parts of southwestern New Hampshire. This cool pattern continues, with the chance of a few snowflakes in the North Country Thursday morning. By Saturday, temperatures will rebound to the 70s in some spots, making for a pleasant end to the week.
Hurricane Milton – Florida’s Major Concern: The focus for many today is on Hurricane Milton, which is rapidly intensifying and expected to make landfall along Florida’s west coast by Wednesday evening. Milton is an extremely powerful storm, with winds expected to exceed 100 mph, potentially causing catastrophic damage. Life-threatening storm surge, especially around Tampa, Palm Harbor, and Port Charlotte, is forecast to reach 12 to 20 feet in some areas. Heavy rain, flooding, and widespread power outages are expected across central Florida as the storm tracks through the state and exits Thursday.
Frost and Chilly Air Ahead in New England: The arrival of a dip in the jet stream has opened the door to cooler air from Canada. With frost likely in parts of northern New England tonight, this cooling trend will continue. Thursday morning could bring the first flakes of snow to some areas in the North Country, marking a true arrival of colder, fall weather.
Looking Toward the Weekend: Temperatures will rebound by Friday into the 60s, and by Saturday, southern New England could reach the 70s. The Topsfield Fair continues to enjoy great weather this week, with events like Three Dog Night on Wednesday and 38 Special on Thursday. While there may be scattered showers on the final day of the fair, the weekend looks generally favorable for outdoor events.
