Today, we’re experiencing a brief break in the shower activity, with some disturbed weather to our south bringing clouds and showers. Meanwhile, a weakening cold front is approaching from Eastern Canada. This front will leave behind some upper-level energy that will affect us on Wednesday. This means we can expect clouds to bubble up, bringing along with them some showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm, particularly in the northern half of New England.
However, don’t let this deter your outdoor plans—these showers will be scattered and brief. Thursday follows a similar pattern with variable morning clouds giving way to a few afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Again, anything that does develop should be short-lived, so there’s no need to cancel your plans. Just be prepared to duck inside briefly if needed.
As we approach Friday, the weather will be relatively quiet, with just an isolated shower possible. The next disturbance, however, begins to make its approach as we head into the weekend. Saturday should start off dry, with increasing clouds throughout the day. By late afternoon, Western New England might start seeing some scattered showers or a thunderstorm, and this unsettled weather will continue into Sunday.
Tropical Storm Ernesto is currently spinning over the Lesser Antilles with winds of 45 mph and higher gusts. It’s expected to move over the U.S. and British Virgin Islands by this evening, skirting Eastern Puerto Rico. Ernesto is forecasted to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by tomorrow evening and become a Category 2 storm as it moves further out into the Atlantic. Bermuda will need to stay on high alert as the storm progresses. For us here at home, an increased risk of rip currents and swell is likely particularly in the second half of the weekend. We’ll keep you posted on any changes.
As always, we’ll keep you updated with any changes, particularly as we track Tropical Storm Ernesto. If you haven’t already, be sure to download the 1DegreeOutside Weather app for the latest forecasts and updates!
