As we look ahead to the final full weekend of September and the kickoff to the Topsfield Fair on October 4th, our weather is shaping up nicely. For the start of the fair expect seasonable temperatures and only a minimal chance of showers. Let’s dive into what you can expect for the rest of this week and the weekend ahead!
As of today, we’re watching a weak area of high pressure over New England, bringing some clouds from the ocean and the west. While most of us are staying dry, there’s a chance for an isolated sprinkle throughout the day.
By Wednesday evening, the approaching cold front will increase the chance of showers, especially for northern and western New England. Expect scattered pockets of rain in these areas tonight and into Thursday, which will be the most unsettled day of the week. Showers will continue across much of the region, with some areas in southern New England seeing rain into Thursday morning before the front moves offshore by Friday.
Temperatures on Thursday will remain in the 60s to around 70°F, with a slight uptick in humidity. W
By Friday, we’ll start to see sunshine return for most areas, though a few clouds will build throughout the day, especially in the mountains, where a stray shower or two may still pop up. Temperatures will rise into the 70-75°F range for most, while the Cape and northern parts of New England will stay cooler, in the mid-60s.
With the rain clearing out and a mix of sun and clouds, Friday is shaping up to be a much better day for outdoor plans, especially after a soggy Thursday.
Both Saturday and Sunday are looking fantastic for the weekend! Temperatures will be seasonable, with highs in the low 70s inland and 60s at the coast, from Boston down to the Cape. Expect variable clouds on Saturday, especially near the coast where an onshore flow could bring in some low clouds from time to time, but overall, it will be a very pleasant fall weekend.
This is the last full weekend of September, so it’s a great opportunity to enjoy some early fall weather before we dive deeper into October. Whether you’re planning a trip to see the fall foliage or just looking forward to some outdoor activities, both weekend days look great!
While New England remains quiet, we are tracking Tropical Storm Helene, which will continue to strengthen as it approaches the Gulf of Mexico. Helene is forecasted to become a Category 3 hurricane by Thursday, with landfall likely along the Florida Panhandle by Thursday evening. The system is then expected to curve inland over Georgia, and curve off to the north-northeast, away from the northeast US, thanks to the upper level steering flow, like Matt explained yesterday.
Helene will not have any direct impact on New England’s weather, but we will continue to monitor the storm’s progress closely, especially as Florida braces for impact.
